Pricing and estimates

A useful estimate starts with the details.

Two requests described as a lock problem can involve very different work. Give LockReach a clear picture of the door, key, vehicle or garage door so you can discuss a relevant estimate.

Ask what the estimate includes and what findings could change the proposed work.

Explain the result you need

Say whether you need to regain entry, stop old keys from working, repair an operating fault or fit different hardware. Include the number of doors and locks. For a garage door, describe its movement and the symptoms you noticed rather than choosing a replacement part yourself.

A lockout and a lost key can be separate jobs. If you also need the missing key's access addressed, mention that when discussing the scope.

Hardware and vehicle details can change the work

For a door lock, share the brand or model if it is visible, the type of door and whether the current key works. Ask about compatibility if you want several locks to share one key or would like a keypad option.

For a car key request, provide the year, make, model and key type, plus whether you still have a working key. Parts and programming needs depend on the vehicle and equipment involved; confirm support for your particular request.

Know what the proposed amount includes

Give the exact service address and ask about availability. Before agreeing to a visit or work, ask which visit, labor, parts, programming or other applicable charges are included and whether any details still need an inspection.

If the assessment points to a different repair or additional work, ask for the revised scope and amount before approving it. An estimate conversation should leave you able to explain what you are agreeing to.

  • What work is included in this estimate?
  • Are there any applicable charges if the work does not proceed?
  • Which parts or compatibility details still need checking?
  • How will a change in scope be discussed before work continues?

A few useful answers

Can I get an estimate before a visit?

Call with the location and request details to discuss an estimate. Ask which information can be assessed on the call and which details may require inspection before the work and amount can be confirmed.

Is rekeying always less expensive than replacement?

The comparison depends on the hardware, its condition and the work required. Ask for the suitable options for your locks rather than assuming one service will always cost less.

What if I already bought a lock or car key?

Mention it before arranging work and give the product details. Ask whether the item is suitable and supported, and how supplying it affects the proposed scope and estimate.

Discuss your request before choosing the work.
